Creamy orange and carrot smoothie

This smoothie has a great contrast of zing and cream as it blends carrot, ginger and Alpro yoghurt. I have never been a great veg eater, and although no longer as fussy as I used to be as a child (brocollini is now a staple), I often “forget” to add vegetables to my food.So I have decided to drink it! I have been using my Ninja nutri bullet blender everyday during lockdown to make what I call “smoothie snacks” (a good alternative to crisps, but the jury is still out on that). My recent favourite is this creamy orange and carrot smoothie. Ingredients:200ml orange juice1 small carrot, peeled and chopped100g alpro vanilla yoghurt1/2 inch piece of ginger, peeled and chopped 1. Blend it all together (I also prefer to strain it for a smoother drink)Yep, that easy to get some vitamin c! Click here to explore other smoothie recipes.

Chia and sesame seed GF crackers

Sesame and chia seed crackers

Currently I have the biggest jar of coconut flour in my cupboard. I bought it after getting hooked into a book about quitting sugar. That went well for a couple of months, long enough for me to come to the conclusion that I would never quit sugar. I mean, have you seen my feed? So the huge bag of coconut flour is a a reminant of that period. Coconut flour scares me as I have never used it outside of specific recipe regulations. But with the purpose to make good use of it I decided to go rogue. Well crackers aren’t that rogue. No raising agent, pulsing everything in a food processor. And the right dip makes all the difference. Hard to go wrong. As a snacker, crackers are such an important part of my day. If I could have 10 well rounded snacks throughout the day rather than 3 round meals I would. I live for snacks. And because I live for snacks I am always trying to evolve them into something different. Because here’s the thing: I will get absolutely obsessed with apple slices and peanut butter and then never want to see it ever again. A broad

Bone shaped macaroons with blood red buttercream

I think it’s amazing that egg whites and almonds can create such a delightful treat. Macaroons is one of the treats I absolutely love and don’t get to have it very often, because although small treats, their price tag is often not so small. I am going to a grown up Halloween party and thought little patisserie bones with a blood red buttercream would be perfect.  This is an easy recipe, however you must follow all the steps carefully to get the perfect chewy macaroon. Bone shaped macaroons with blood red buttercream 125g icing sugar 125g ground almonds 90g egg whites 2 tbsp water 110g caster sugar 75g softened butter 40g icing sugar Red food colouring Method: 1. Print or draw on a piece of paper bone shapes to fit your baking tray. Mine were around 4cm long. Place the sheet with the bone pattern under a piece of greaseproof paper 2. Put the icing sugar and ground almonds in a food processor and blitz. Sieve the mixture discarding any large lumps 3. Add 40g of egg whites to the almond mixture and mix to a paste 4. Put the water and caster sugar in a small pan and heat

Banana and dark chocolate chia pudding

I  laid in bed yesterday thinking since when did I become such an angry, inpatient person? I have been snapping at everyone recently and even beeped my horn at a slow driver yesterday – a big no-no in England. The feeling of guilt ate me up afterwards. How must I have made that driver feel? What if it was an old lady or a teenager learning how to drive? I am a strong believer in “owning up”, in the sense that I don’t like using external reasons to blame for my own actions. But this week I am going to have to make an exception and blame my period. The changes are palpable, not only in terms of emotions but also in regards to my stomach. My diet has changed considerably in the last few months, I have been trying to cut down on refined sugar and starchy foods and as a result I have been craving chocolate less and less, or in fact any sweet stuff. Result! But do you ever feel like sometimes food rules your emotions? My period then came and like clockwork, chocolate is all I thought about. Food is an emotional thing, and my body

cashew protein boost balls

I love being outdoors…for a nice walk, a picnic or a bonfire party. But when it comes to exercising being outdoors is not my thing. I like a mud-free, climate controlled environment. Regardless of the environment being fit is very important to me, especially when I feel stressed, running and boxing are great ways to release stress. With an increase in my exercise routine in the last few months I have noticed that my body is asking me for more food, and it’s very hard not to oblige. If you are a serious gym goer, protein intake is no joke. A lack of protein in your diet can causes muscle weakness, fatigue and lethargy. And I ain’t got time for that. A gym buddy introduced me to protein balls, the popular brand I tried tasted nice but felt a little like a jawbreaker and were incredibly dry.  I liked the idea of a high protein snack so decided to start playing with a few ingredients. This is a great recipe, and it is not only for gym lovers, these little balls are a good pick me up for the slump in those hours between breakfast and lunch. Chia seeds is my favourite

German liver patê and butter apples on rosemary crackers

So bloody excited to share this ridiculously easy recipe, inspired by our ingredient exchange part II. I needed some excitement in my life. It has consisted pretty much of watching Brazilian soap operas online and eating leftovers. This has been mainly triggered by the fact that my other-half has been away at sea for the last 6 weeks. Sounds romantic? In reality it is not so much. The house has been a tip and when you’re just cooking for one I feel very little motivation to whip up exciting meals so my diet has mainly consisted of shop bought sushi and quick omelettes. This made me realise that what drives me to cook and try out new recipes is having other people to cook for. Why did I have no motivation when it comes to cooking for myself? Talk about self-love, eh? This handmade German patê that Karla sent me jolted my memory, it reminded of the happiness that comes with indulgent food for one. And it wasn’t even that hard to make the accompaniments: a simple cracker recipe based on one by Jamie Oliver and warm buttered apples.  The crackers also come with good news for our dairy-free friends as it is
