Cloudy ginger lemonade

cloudy ginger lemonade

Warm weather fronts are here. This is when we jump for joy that the beautiful sea views are less than an hour away. Our lockdown summer was marked by long walks by the coast and lazy days sat on the cool grass in our garden, and with longer, warmer days here I have started to crave this lemonade. And with the go ahead for meeting friends and families in gardens and parks, this is the perfect mocktail for a socially distanced get together. It’s sparkling, refreshing and if you have a blender it only takes 10 minutes to make! . Cloudy ginger lemonade (makes around 1.5l) 6 lemons 2 tbsp caster sugar 400ml water 750ml non alcoholic ginger beer Mint to garnish Ice . 1. Cut lemons into quarters and remove seeds. Blend it lemons, water and and sugar. Pass it through a sieve and discard the bigger lumps of zest and pith. 2. Add ginger beer and serve it over ice. Garnish with mint. . . More summer recipes:

Pimple-be-gone face scrub

I think I have mentioned in the blog before that I am trying to detox from refined sugars, dairy and gluten from my diet, which has been going well and I say this because I truly feel different, from my energy levels to my weight. I did have Yorkshire puddings and chocolate cake last weekend but hey, even the detox needs a break, and I am being realistic about this, I don’t want to completely cut gluten, dairy and sugar from my diet because I know it would be unsustainable for myself and also because I believe few things bring me as much happiness as butter and chocolate do. This new regime has made me more interested in reading about food and I came across an article about Pulitzer-nominated Shann Nixx who moved from California to Wales and now has a goat farm. She experimented with goat’s milk to make a natural remedy for her son’s eczma and she was amazed by the results. What amazed me even more was that she used raw Manuka honey to look after her husband after he had a bad case of MRSA. They found that antibiotics were not doing the job on top of

Mango Caipiroska

It has been a busy week, I have worked 40 hours on top of going to University (I am currently studying to become a nurse) and it was hard to juggle both, let alone think of a social life.  My long hours have meant I have missed a few of the world cup matches, thankfully I have caught glimpses of a few matches while some of my patients were watching it. I rushed home yesterday to catch the second half of the England match (they have a special place in my heart) and was so nervous watching it, almost as nervous when Brazil plays, but they disappointed me when they lost yesterday. But on a brighter note our Seleção has kept their momentum and I can’t wait for our game on Monday. This Caipiroska is the perfect drink for this coming week, not only because of its glorious colours (!) and I am so excited to tell you guys about it! Caipiroska is a vodka version of Caipirinha. For those who don’t know what Caipirinha is, it is one of Brazil’s biggest exports and my favourite drink. It is kinda like a Mojito but better (sorry, Cuba). It is made with Cachaça, a liquor made

Homemade lemonade with mint

Summer is nigh in the northern hemisphere. Every warm day that comes feels like a victory and we try to make the most of it, as if it were the only warm day of the year. The people who live in cold places know what I am talking about. Walks in the woods, pic nics, basking in the sun, barbecues, a stroll by the lake…I cannot wait! Last year I was after the perfect summer drink, something refreshing and easy to make. I love juices, I grew up spoiled for choice for tropical juices so there aren’t many juices here in Germany that I fancy. The recipe I am sharing with you is homemade lemonade with mint and it is delicious, easy and perfect for hot summer days. But be very careful, you might get addicted! Homemade lemonade with mint (makes 1,1l) 1l + 100ml of water 4 fresh mint sprigs 4 tbsp lemon juice 2 tbsp sugar 1. In a pan mix 100ml of water, the mint throroughly washed and the sugar. Bring it to boil on medium heat and then set aside to cool down. Add the lemon juice and take the mint off the mixture. This is

Meat stuffed Syrian bread (Arayes), hummus and fattoush salad

Each and every culture has classic dishes, different approaches to mixing spices and different ways to prepare food and I love this, I love experimenting with new recipes, going to different shops looking for ingredients that are still unknown to me. And then I wait with bated breath for the final result. It’s like travelling without leaving your own kitchen. I have been meaning to make a simple but special dinner and decided to add a Lebanese twist to it. I must admit that Lebanese cuisine is not that unknown to me as I grew up with my grandma’s Lebanese cooking. However I feel it is time for me to give my own twist to these familiar recipes which bring back so many amazing childhood memories. Wish I could go back in time. I made 3 different recipes to make up my dinner menu but they are all very versatile. For instance Arayes are great as a light lunch or snack to have with friends and a bottle of beer or wine. The Hummus can also be used as a dip for vegetables, spread for sandwiches or added to fish, chicken or lamb. And lastly the salad, refreshing with the
